Assignment:

Hopefully, your studies of Saussure and Berger have led you to "seeing" texts in new and exciting ways. Remember that your new ways of seeing might include articulating previous "ways of seeing" more clearly and applying them more successfully. Taking advantage of your new ways of seeing, study Brueghel’s Icarus. Consider WHAT the painting means and HOW it means. Then explore its relation to W.H. Auden's "Musee des Beaux Arts." Your thesis should, in some way, deal with the following: The relationship between "Musee des Beaux Arts" and Icarus? All other paper topics must be presented to me by Wednesday, 3/7.

Your paper must be a minimum of 750 words. Be sure to review "Clarification of Course Requirements" and "Form" on page two of your syllabus.
