Describing a Character

Topic sentence: Write a general sentence that will introduce your character but not name him or her.

Ex. This prince of darkness is a monstrous creature in the night.

 

 

 

Support sentence #1: Write a sentence that focuses on your character’s physical appearance and supports your topic sentence.

Ex. He has bloody fangs, and his jet-black widow’s peek matches his jet-black suit.

 

 

 

Support sentence #2: Write a sentence that focuses on your character’s thoughts, words, and/or actions and supports your topic sentence.

Ex. He takes on the form of a bat when he flies through the dark night, searching for his next victim.

 

 

 

Support sentence #3: Write a sentence that focuses on the reactions of the characters that often surround your character and supports your topic sentence.

Ex. When people see him, chills run up their spines, and they always run away.

 

 

 

Concluding sentence: Write a sentence that pulls your paragraph together and reveals your character’s identity

Ex. The next time you are walking alone down a dark alleyway, be sure to look over your shoulder, for you never know when you’ll become dinner for the dreadful Count Dracula.
